GoHighLevel WhatsApp: setup, pricing, Coexistence and automation
Leer en español: WhatsApp en GoHighLevel · Ler em português: CRM para WhatsApp · Part of all GoHighLevel features
GoHighLevel connects to the official WhatsApp Business Platform for $10 per month per sub-account, plus Meta’s per-message rates. Messages arrive in the unified inbox, can be automated with workflows and answered by Conversation AI, and you can keep your WhatsApp Business App number with Coexistence. Since October 1, 2026 the first 1,000 service messages per number each month are free and the rest are billed per message.
From HighLevel’s WhatsApp pricing, billing and rebilling guide, updated September 22, 2026, and the WhatsApp Coexistence article.
In most of the world, customers do not fill in forms. They send a WhatsApp. A clinic in Miami, a gym in Madrid or a real estate team in Bogotá gets more WhatsApp messages in a week than emails in a month, usually on one phone that one person answers when they can.
GoHighLevel WhatsApp turns that phone into a shared, automated channel: every chat on the contact record, reminders that customers can confirm with one tap, and AI that answers at midnight. This guide covers setup, Coexistence, templates, automation and exactly how billing works after Meta’s October 2026 changes.

What you can do with WhatsApp in GoHighLevel

Two ways to connect your number
| New number on the API | Coexistence (keep the Business App) | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Teams that want everything in HighLevel | Businesses that still want the app on the phone |
| Chat history | Starts empty | Up to six months imported during setup |
| Business App on the phone | No | Yes, both work on the same number |
| Templates | From HighLevel | From HighLevel only |
| Groups, broadcast lists, calls in the app | Not applicable | Not supported after onboarding |
| Throughput | Standard Cloud API limits | Fixed at 20 messages per second |
| Restrictions | One number per account; not available for Nigeria and South Africa |
Both start in Settings > WhatsApp > Connect your WhatsApp. With Coexistence, update the WhatsApp Business App first and complete the history sync within 24 hours of onboarding, or you will have to start over.
How WhatsApp is billed in GoHighLevel
There are two separate costs: HighLevel’s subscription and Meta’s messages.
| Cost | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| HighLevel WhatsApp | $10/month per sub-account | Includes AI conversations, workflow automation, CRM integration and interactive reminders |
| Marketing, utility and authentication messages | Meta’s rate per delivered message, by country | Example: a US marketing message is $0.0263 |
| Service messages (replies to customers) | First 1,000 per number per month free | Billed per message after that, since October 1, 2026 |
| Utility messages inside the 24-hour window | Billable since October 1, 2026 | Were free until September 30, 2026 |
| Chats from Click to WhatsApp ads or Page buttons | Free for 72 hours | All message types |
| WhatsApp calls | Business-initiated: per minute in 6-second pulses | Customer-initiated calls are free |
| Payment processing | 5% | Applied to Meta rates |
Meta changes its rate card by country several times a year. Check the current rates for the countries you message before you launch a campaign.
Five WhatsApp automations to build first
- Instant reply to new leads. A template greeting the moment a form or ad lead arrives, with a question that invites a reply.
- Appointment confirmation. An interactive reminder with confirm and reschedule buttons the day before.
- Missed call to WhatsApp. If the call is missed, continue the conversation on WhatsApp.
- AI after hours. Conversation AI answers FAQs and books appointments when the team is offline.
- Review request. A short utility message after the visit with your review link.
GoHighLevel vs a standalone WhatsApp tool
Tools such as WATI or Respond.io start at $30 to $99 a month and often charge per user or per active contact. In HighLevel, WhatsApp is $10 per sub-account with unlimited users, and it shares the CRM, pipeline, calendar and automations with every other channel. A dedicated tool can still make sense for very large broadcast operations; for a business that wants one system, the integrated option is usually simpler and cheaper.
Heads-up: WhatsApp marketing moves to MM Lite before October 13, 2027
Meta has confirmed that marketing messages will stop being delivered through the Cloud API on October 13, 2027. From then on, marketing templates must go through Meta’s Marketing Messages API, which HighLevel supports as MM Lite. Service and utility messages are not affected.
- Open the banner. In each sub-account, go to Settings → WhatsApp and click the MM Lite activation banner.
- Enable. Click “Enable MM Lite”; you are sent to the WhatsApp account interface.
- Respond. Open the Requests tab and click Respond, then Continue on the ROI prompt.
- Confirm. Confirm the permissions and click Finish.
Numbers and templates carry over, nothing needs re-approval and campaigns keep running. HighLevel lists better delivery for high-engagement messages, GIF headers and conversion and cost metrics per template; it mentions no price change.
Also new in October 2026: a rebuilt template builder with a live phone preview, and per-contact media headers. A header can use a custom field, so one approved template sends each contact their own invoice, image or document from workflows, conversations, bulk actions, calendar messages, review requests or missed call text back. The file must sit at a public URL Meta can download; private Drive links fail.
