GoHighLevel Voice AI: an AI receptionist that answers, books and follows up
Leer en español: Voice AI de GoHighLevel · Ler em português: Voice AI do GoHighLevel · Part of all GoHighLevel features
Voice AI is HighLevel’s AI voice agent. It answers inbound calls and makes outbound ones, uses your knowledge base to talk to callers, books appointments in your calendar, updates the contact, transfers to a human when needed and triggers workflows after the call. It runs on pay-per-use (about $0.06/min before LLM and phone costs) or inside the AI Employee plans.

Every small business has the same silent leak: the phone rings while the owner is on a job, at lunch or asleep. The caller does not leave a voicemail; they call the next company on Google. A human answering service fixes it but costs per minute and still cannot book into your calendar. Voice AI is HighLevel’s answer: an agent that picks up every call, knows your hours, services and prices, and leaves a booked appointment and a clean contact record behind.
Here is how it works, what it costs in real numbers, how to set one up and where it still needs a human.
What a Voice AI agent can do
What it really costs
Voice AI is billed per sub-account. You can pay as you go or include minutes in an AI Employee plan. Phone minutes from LC Phone are always billed separately.
| Option | Price | Voice AI included | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pay-per-use | No monthly fee | Voice engine $0.045/min + text-to-speech (from $0.015/min) + LLM tokens | Testing, low call volume |
| AI Employee Growth | $50/month | 100 minutes, plus 1,000 Conversation AI replies | A single location with steady calls |
| AI Employee Unlimited | $97/month | Unlimited (fair use) | Busy locations, agencies reselling AI |
Speech-to-speech voices cost more per minute than the standard voice engine. US phone minutes on LC Phone are about $0.012/min inbound and $0.017/min outbound. Agencies on Agency Pro can rebill AI usage with their own markup.
Set up your first Voice AI agent
- Write down the five questions callers ask most. Prices, hours, location, availability, what to bring. That list becomes your first knowledge base.
- Create the agent. Go to AI Agents → Voice AI → Create agent. Give it a name, your business name and pick a voice.
- Define the goal and instructions. Tell it what a successful call looks like (for example a booked inspection), what to ask and what it must never promise.
- Connect actions. Link your calendar, the transfer number for your team and the workflows to run during and after the call.
- Assign the phone number and hours. Choose the LC Phone or Twilio number and decide when the agent answers: always, after hours or only when nobody picks up.
- Test before going live. Use the web call test, then call it yourself from a mobile with real questions. Review the call log and tighten the instructions.

Where it still needs a human
Sensitive or complex conversations
Complaints, emergencies, negotiations and anything medical or legal should be transferred. Define those rules before going live.
Consent and disclosure
In the US, outbound calls that use an AI voice need prior express consent from the contact, and many states require call-recording notices. Tell callers they are speaking with an AI assistant; it builds trust and keeps you compliant.
A bad knowledge base means bad answers
The agent is only as good as what you teach it. Review call logs weekly during the first month and update prices and policies whenever they change.

Frequently asked questions
How much does GoHighLevel Voice AI cost?
On pay-per-use, HighLevel’s own example puts a 10-minute call at about $0.60 for the voice engine ($0.045/min) and text-to-speech ($0.015/min with OpenAI), plus LLM tokens and phone minutes. The AI Employee Growth plan ($50/month per sub-account) includes 100 Voice AI minutes, and AI Employee Unlimited ($97/month) includes unlimited minutes under fair use.
Can Voice AI make outbound calls?
Yes. Voice AI agents handle inbound and outbound calls: lead follow-up, appointment reminders, confirmation calls and reactivation campaigns. In the US, calls with an AI voice need the contact’s prior consent, so build outbound campaigns only on lists that opted in.
Can it book appointments in my calendar?
Yes. The agent books directly into the calendars you connect, can spread bookings across several calendars, and can send a confirmation SMS or email after the call.
Can I keep my current phone number?
Voice AI works with LC Phone or Twilio numbers in your HighLevel account. You can port your existing number or forward calls from it to a HighLevel number, for example only after hours or when nobody answers.
Does it speak Spanish?
Voice AI agents can be multilingual. Choose a voice that sounds natural in the language, write the instructions and knowledge base in that language and test real calls before going live.
